Guided Tours

Experience guided tours through the historic mine led by knowledgeable guides. You don't have to go up and down loads of ladders - although those trips are available to clubs with BCA membership. The standard trip is easy walking only and lasts one and a half hours.

Historic Significance

Learn about the mine's local significance in Derbyshire's mining history, and about some of the characters that have been involved in it since 1830. This is the nearest you will get to seeing how the old miners worked - this a real mine (classed as working by the mines inspectorate).

Authentic Experience

No bulkhead light fittings, no concrete paths. This is the real deal. You will see original tubs, tools and artefacts. No gift shop or coffee franchise.

Preservation Efforts

Its a big job maintaining the mine to the safety standards required. We are doing everythiing the old miner did apart from extract worthwhile amounts of lead. Indeed we are relearning old skills and passing them on to keep them alive.
